Mother Joni Taylor said Sophie’s boyfriend Aaron Godfellow gave her his blessing to hang out with the prince
Australian model Sophie Taylor, 24, made headlines after being photographed having lunch with Prince William and his pals during their Swiss vacation.
But it has now emerged that Sophie used to fancy the Prince’s younger brother Harry.
‘We couldn’t believe it when we saw photos of her dancing with Prince William as when we were at school we all used to joke about who we fancied the most,’ a friend of the model told The Sun.
‘Sophie was definitely in the Harry camp. A few of us emailed her to say, “WTF?” and thought she’d be joking about it. But she’s actually horrified by the attention and says she was totally unprepared for it.’
Other friends defended Sophie and said meeting Prince William wouldn’t have fazed her.
‘Hanging out with big names or royalty really doesn’t faze or impress Sophie. She’s not that type of person,’ childhood friend Jordi Steele told the publication.
arlier this month, Sophie’s mother came to her defence and said Sophie would never put Prince William ‘in an awkward position’.
‘She’s very close with her boyfriend,’ Joni Taylor told the The Kyle and Jackie O Show, adding that Aaron had given Sophie his blessing to continue partying with the royal that night.
Joni revealed that Aaron had told her daughter: ‘Go out, you’re with Prince William, have the best time. I wish I could be there, but I’ve gotta go to work.’
The concerned mother said Sophie and the prince ‘went out and had a couple drinks’.
Sophie works at the Farinet nightclub, the popular après-ski hangout where William and his friends were spotted until the early hours dancing away in footage captured during their boys’ ski holiday in Switzerland.
She was photographed high fiving the second in line to the throne during a break from skiing at the mountainside La Vache restaurant in the upmarket Swiss resort, Verbier.
Prince William, 34, skipped a major Commonwealth ceremony with the Queen to party with friends in the Swiss Alps.
It is believed that William left his wife, the Duchess of Cambridge, and their young children at home for the weekend jaunt, which also saw the Prince spending time with nightclub boss Guy Pelly.
Bartender-turned-chef Aaron has claimed he was also present as William enjoyed Jägerbombs, beer, and wine, calling the royal a ‘great guy’ and ‘very down to earth.’
Sophie’s mother added that she’s ‘very happy’ with her boyfriend.
But her association with the royal has made Sophie an easy target on social media, where Joni revealed the model is being relentlessly ‘hounded’ on Twitter by people from all over the world.
‘She’s the most beautiful, down-to-earth, humble girl. And it’s a shame because she’s been targeted.’
‘She lost her phone that night, and they’re making it out as though it was because they were drunk,’ Joni said, adding that her daughter is now taking the negative attention ‘a lot more seriously’.
The morning after her night out, Sophie posted a message to the Verbier Lost and Found Facebook page saying she had lost her phone during the night.
Joni had previously told Sydney’s The Daily Telegraph that Sophie had told her how she met Prince William and ‘said he was a lovely and down to earth person’.
She said Sophie was left ‘in shock’ by the intense media reaction – spurred in part by footage that showed the prince dancing at Verbier – and insisted her daughter was a ‘girl of integrity’.
Sophie previously worked for Australian agency Chadwick Models and relocated to Switzerland with Aaron several years ago after living in London.
Joseph Tenni, Sophie’s former agent at Chadwick, said the agency represented her from 2012 to 2015 and that he remembers her being ‘super professional and polite’.
The model also posed topless for photographer Glen Krohn in Bali when she visited the island last year.
‘Sophie is a real down to earth straight talking girl from Oz,’ Glen said. ‘She would be very comfortable in the company of the royals even though I don’t think she had met any of them before.’
He added that she is ‘very confident’ and had ‘no inhibitions about posing topless’.
‘She was great to photograph and a real fun person to be around. I’m sure Prince William enjoyed her company.’
